James DeRosso makes really cool monster sculptures of all types, when he was visiting me one day a few months ago he saw my tube collection and he asked for a few old tubes, well here is the result  if you would like to see some of his other monsters or if you want to commission your very own custom tube monster you can check out his website or blog here .

In case you are wondering – the amp is an 18watt el84 / 6bq5 Marshall Plexi clone with a ppmv and the guitar is a 1968 Gibson es335

I can’t Resist – Shirt Woot

Well it finally arrived after 10 days – my first Shirt WOOT, and what a fine shirt it is, check out the photo. Very cleaver…

What is WOOT? It is a website that offers one VERY Random, super good deal every day, when the item is sold out- it is gone never to return. , Shirt WOOT is an off shoot of the original WOOT that offers up a different t-shirt every day. Since its inception WOOT has grown a bit, and now has 4 different categories’ of WOOTING:

  1. Original – 1 super good deal l Today’s deal August 7th is a very nicely eqip=
  2. Shirt Woot – 1 original possibly quirky 100% cotton tshirts
  3. Wine Woot – here ya get a few bottles of the good stuff for a great price ,again RANDOM

NEW SERVICE SOON !!!!!!! (TUBES) update 9-25

I have always been doing high quality tube testing and matching with an extensively modified Hickok 539C test unit. But very soon a new “ULTRA” performance testing, matching and real operational performance results will be offered.

We are getting closer to offering a most unique service for the ultimate in tube testing/matching/selecting  (a world wide service) real tests, actual printed/documented results in performance under real operating conditions

Have you ever wondered if the “designer” expensive tubes you have purchased are really up to the claimed results? I know that you pay top money for these tubes. Brands like Telefunkin, Amperex, Mullard, RCA, Tung-Sol, GE..ETC. the service offered will be to put these tubes under actual real world load and signal conditions and provide documented test results with photos of the curve trace and true gain (mu) all parameters will be documented with the tube along with several B+ (high voltage) test and curve plots. various bias set points. among a dozen other tests. The results will come with the base line reference from the manufacture so you can see what the NOS tube should test as and what your tubes test as. I also will offer bulk matching and sorting for multi tube (matched use)

More details and sample results will be posted soon. As far as I know no one is offering such a high quaility and precision test service.

UPDATE: Sept 25….. I’m as usual behind, but this project/service is going to be great. I have now been working on a process to add an additional service with this premium Tube testing/grading offering. 24K gold plating on for the pins. Why, you ask?.. for vastly improved contact between the tube and the mating socket, a non resistive connection and improved signal transfer. I will not only glass bead blast clean the pins on the tube I will then chemically etch and clean, then 24K direct plate the pins. “does it work?, can you hear it?” you bet you can. I hope to have photos posted of the entire process soon

It’s all in the name “Western Electric”!

Western Electric 274A.

A heralded name in tube manufacturing, Western Electric is a name known worldwide for their outstanding vacuum tubes. Their classic 274A is a legend, setting the world standard for quality

This tube was purchased from an estate that I had contact with the family. Among many other treasures I purchased. I have been restoring fine classic audio gear for over 40 years. This is a rare tube to find in this condition. As you see pictured I have a highly modified and very accurate Hickok 539C tube tester. I have displayed this tube for you under actual test conditions. It reads at near original specification and tests near perfect!..

The results show this tube has had very little use if any. The box and packing is missing due to the fact that the whole box of tubes that I had purchased had been in a damp environment and the box simply was decayed to near nothing. I will not ship out of country due to lots of fraud and scams. I will ship very well packed and with written test results.
