I just built a guitar amp with a master volume the schematic called for a 500k audio taper pot, which I didn’t have so I substituted a 500k linier pot, and guess what… It didn’t work as I expected. All of the volume control occurred in the first 1/30th of a turn. This is due to the fact that people hear in a linier fashion. For example if you double the wattage of an amplifier you will not double the volume.
